💥 Damian Lillard Released by Bucks—But They Still Owe Him a Staggering $113M

It’s the kind of NBA shake-up no one saw coming. Milwaukee Bucks have officially waived Damian Lillard, just under two years after acquiring the All-Star guard in a blockbuster trade. But here’s the kicker: the Bucks will still have to pay him a jaw-dropping $113 million, even though Dame won’t be wearing a Bucks jersey anymore.

This move has sent shockwaves across the league—and fans are reeling. 🤯

🏀 A Short-Lived Era: Lillard’s Time in Milwaukee Ends Abruptly

When the Bucks landed Lillard in 2023, it felt like the dawn of a dynasty. After years of loyalty to the Portland Trail Blazers, the 7-time All-Star was ready for a fresh start—his preferred destination was Miami, but Milwaukee pulled off the surprise trade.

Pairing Damian Lillard with Giannis Antetokounmpo looked like a recipe for Eastern Conference domination. On paper, the duo’s offensive firepower was scary. But in reality? It never fully materialized.

  • In his first season, Lillard helped the Bucks secure the No. 3 seed in the East.
  • Sadly, they fell in the first round to the Indiana Pacers.
  • The following season brought even more heartbreak: Lillard was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT)—a blood clot in his right calf. 💔

He valiantly attempted a playoff return but tore his Achilles tendon in Game 4 against Indiana. At 34, with a brutal injury, his career trajectory hit a scary fork in the road.

💸 Why the Bucks Still Owe Dame $113M

So, why is Milwaukee paying big bucks for a player they’ve released?

Because of NBA contract rules and the stretch provision, the Bucks must honor the rest of Lillard’s deal—$113 million—even though he’s no longer on their roster.

That’s right: Lillard could sign with another team tomorrow and still be banking Milwaukee’s money.

This cap strategy allows the Bucks to spread out Dame’s salary over five years, giving them breathing room to make bold moves. And bold they went.

🆕 Enter Myles Turner: The Bucks’ Risky Power Play

Milwaukee didn’t release Lillard for nothing. To strengthen their lineup, they lured Myles Turner away from Indiana, signing the big man to a 4-year, $107 million deal.

Pacers insider Alex Golden reported Indiana offered Turner “well north of $20M annually” but balked at adding a fourth year to avoid the luxury tax. Milwaukee didn’t hesitate, signing Turner for nearly $27M per year.

Here’s the crazy math:

  • Turner’s deal: $107 million
  • Lillard’s remaining contract: $113 million
  • Total cost for Milwaukee: $220 million

That’s a massive financial gamble for a team hoping to remain a contender.

😱 A Stunning End to the Damian Lillard-Bucks Story

The Dame Time era in Milwaukee lasted less than two seasons. For a player once seen as the missing piece for Giannis’ second championship run, it’s a shocking end.

Lillard, who turns 35 this month, faces a daunting comeback from an Achilles tear. These injuries have derailed even the greatest careers—but Dame has never been one to back down.

🔥 Could this setback spark one final run with a new contender?

🗣️ Fans React: “They Did Dame Dirty!”

Social media exploded with takes on the Lillard news.

📱 “$113 million to not play?! Dame just hit the lottery twice!”
📱 “Milwaukee gave up so much for him… and now this?”
📱 “Prayers up for Dame. Achilles injuries are no joke.”

As NBA Twitter debates whether the Bucks made the right call, one thing’s certain: Damian Lillard’s next move will be must-watch.

🏆 What’s Next for Dame?

Despite his injury, Lillard remains one of the league’s most respected veterans and could bring leadership and clutch shooting to any playoff-hungry team.

Potential suitors include:
✅ Miami Heat (his original trade request)
✅ Los Angeles Lakers (always hunting stars)
✅ Philadelphia 76ers (pairing with Joel Embiid?)

If he can recover and return to form, Dame could write one of the greatest comeback stories in NBA history.

📢 What Do You Think?

💬 Should the Bucks have kept Dame despite his injury? Will he come back stronger and silence the doubters?
