Uganda’s 2024 Concert Scene: Major Events That Fell Short of Expectations

The year 2024 witnessed an exciting lineup of concerts in Uganda, but not every event managed to attract the audience it anticipated. While some shows thrived, others struggled with turnout, earning the label of “flops.” Here’s a closer look at the events that failed to live up to the hype:

    1. Gravity Omutujju’s Embaga Ya Isma Na’mina Concert

    • Date: 7th September
    • Venue: Lugogo Cricket Oval

Despite Gravity Omutujju’s relentless promotional efforts, his Embaga Ya Isma Na’mina concert turned out to be a major disappointment. With the lowest audience turnout among 2024’s big events, it fell short of expectations and marked a low point in the year’s entertainment calendar.

    2. Big Eye’s Cricket Oval Concert

    • Date: 7th December
    • Venue: Lugogo Cricket Oval

Big Eye‘s much-anticipated concert garnered significant attention in the weeks leading up to the event, particularly after receiving public support from Bobi Wine, the National Unity Platform (NUP) principal. Unfortunately, the hype didn’t translate into ticket sales, making the show a numbers flop. Despite the political endorsement, the concert failed to energize audiences.

    3. Salongo Siraje’s Live in Nalu Nalu Concert

    • Date: 14th June
    • Venue: Lugogo Cricket Oval

Salongo Siraje, known for managing legendary artist Jose Chameleone, ventured into music with his debut single Nalu Nalu. However, his first-ever concert struggled to make an impact. Attendance was poor, with barely half the Lugogo Cricket Oval filled, leaving fans questioning the success of his music career.

    4. Tom Dee’s Omuzabibu Concert

    • Date: 30th November
    • Venue: Forest Resort, Lweza

Tom Dee, whose hit single Omuzabibu went viral on TikTok, hosted his debut concert at the serene Forest Resort in Lweza. Despite his growing social media fame, the event failed to draw significant crowds. The low turnout left the venue largely empty, reflecting the challenge of converting online popularity into real-world success.

    5. Mikie Wine’s Tusabaale Concert

    • Date: 7th September
    • Venue: Lugogo Cricket Oval

The rivalry between Gravity Omutujju and Mikie Wine came to a head as their concerts were held on the same day. Adding fuel to the fire, their political affiliations—Gravity leaning towards the NRM and Mikie Wine supporting the NUP—further heightened tensions. While Mikie Wine managed to outdo Gravity in attendance, the turnout remained underwhelming, securing his Tusabaale concert a spot on this list of flops.

    Closing Thoughts

While 2024 delivered memorable moments in Uganda’s music scene, these concerts highlight the challenges artists face in converting hype into ticket sales. From political endorsements to TikTok fame, these examples show that success requires more than just publicity—it demands connection with audiences and strategic planning. As we look ahead to 2025, artists and organizers can draw lessons from these missteps to create events that truly resonate with fans.
