Rick Ross may need to rethink his plans for a “BMF” film as bringing the project to theaters could prove legally challenging—mainly because his longtime rival, 50 Cent, holds exclusive rights to both the TV and film adaptations of the Black Mafia Family story.
50 Cent Holds Sole Ownership Over ‘BMF’ TV & Film Rights
According to sources with direct knowledge, 50 Cent’s G-Unit film division is the sole owner of the BMF story’s film and television rights, leaving Ross with no legal path forward for an official BMF film.
Additionally, 50’s team is already deep in production on a Tammy Cowins biopic, a new expansion of the BMF franchise. Cowins was a close associate of Big Meech, a former BMF Entertainment CEO, and a business partner of the infamous drug empire.
50 Cent & Lil Meech Clash Over ‘BMF’ Future
The Starz series’ future remains uncertain, as 50 Cent recently cast doubt on another season. He even publicly mocked lead actor Lil Meech, leaking private text messages that suggested 50 was not on board with future developments.
Surprisingly, even 50’s longtime rival, The Game, found humor in the exchange, showing that 50’s dominance over the BMF franchise continues to spark conversation.

Rick Ross & Big Meech’s Florida Connection
Despite the legal roadblock, Rick Ross remains closely connected to Big Meech, who has been spending time with the rapper in Florida since his release from prison last fall.
Ross’ ‘Welcome Home’ Concert for Big Meech
Although a BMF film is out of reach, Ross is still making movie-like moves by hosting Big Meech’s “Welcome Home” concert featuring a star-studded lineup including:
- Rick Ross
- Lil Baby
- 21 Savage
- Sexyy Red
- And many more!
Ross has also promised to perform his hit song “BMF (Blowin’ Money Fast)” at least 14 times, ensuring a legendary celebration in honor of Big Meech’s release
