In a candid and emotional clip captured by The Art of Dialogue, the Philadelphia hip-hop veteran addressed internet trolls and conspiracy theorists head-on, slamming those who have suggested he “sacrificed” his own son for money or fame.
Gillie Confronts the Conspiracy Theories
The Million Dollaz Worth of Game host didn’t mince words when responding to those peddling what he called “ignorant” lies about the July 2023 murder of his 25-year-old son, whose real name was Devin Spady.
“My son got murdered in a ghetto in Philadelphia, standing on the corner. But nas talk about, ‘I sacrificed my son,’” Gillie said. “Do you know how ignorant that is, bro? Listen, do you understand how I’m one of the realest nas ever living, man? You can’t offend me by typing some dumb s**t at the bottom of the joint. I’ve already accepted my son’s passing.”
“You’re Hurting Your Own Family”
Gillie went further, warning that the negative energy from spreading such lies doesn’t just harm the target — it could come back to haunt the person spreading them.
“All you’re doing is putting negative energy on yourself,” he said. “All you’re doing is shortening somebody’s life up on your side. So when your mama or one of your aunts or your brother check out in the next six months, you put that negative energy on them.”
The 39-year-old rapper-turned-podcaster stressed that accusing a grieving father of killing his child for personal gain is beyond disrespectful — it’s dangerous.
“The world works off of energy, buddy,” Gillie said. “You on here telling a na, a solid na like me, that he killed his son for money. Think about that. A n*a think he’s hurting me by typing that st. He’s hurting his whole family.”
The Tragic Shooting That Claimed YNG Cheese’s Life
On July 21, 2023, tragedy struck when YNG Cheese was killed in a triple shooting in Philadelphia. The attack sent shockwaves through the city’s rap community and beyond, with artists and fans mourning the loss of the young talent.
Police reports revealed that Cheese was standing outside when gunfire erupted, leaving him fatally wounded. Two others were also injured in the shooting. No arrests have been publicly announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Gillie Opens Up About His Most Painful Moment
Months after his son’s death, Gillie shared one of the most heartbreaking details of his grieving process during an appearance on The Pivot Podcast, hosted by former NFL stars Channing Crowder, Fred Taylor, and Ryan Clark.
Fighting back tears, Gillie described what he called both the “worst” and “best” moment of his life.
“The worst time had to be when I had to wash his body,” he said. “That was the worst, but it was also the best because I became a man that day.”
He explained that before that moment, he thought being a man was about financial responsibility and providing for others.
“I thought I was a fking man, but I wasn’t,” Gillie said. “I thought I was a man because I did man st. I paid bills. I took care of my family. I took care of my sisters. I took care of my dad, my mom, and kids that’s not even my kids because they lost their dad.”
A Community in Mourning
YNG Cheese’s death left a hole in the Philadelphia rap scene, where he had been building a name for himself through raw street storytelling and collaborations. Tributes poured in from fellow artists, friends, and fans, many of whom credited him with carrying his father’s legacy forward while carving his own lane in hip-hop.
Gillie, who’s known for his humor and quick wit on Million Dollaz Worth of Game, has since used his platform to speak about grief, fatherhood, and the importance of protecting Black youth from gun violence.
The Bigger Picture: Internet Conspiracies and Grief
Gillie’s fiery response highlights a darker reality for public figures who endure personal loss — the internet’s habit of inventing narratives for clicks and clout. Celebrity deaths are often followed by baseless “Illuminati sacrifice” theories, a harmful trend that can deepen the pain for grieving families.
By speaking directly to those spreading the rumors, Gillie made it clear: he won’t be broken by lies — but he’s not staying silent either.
