Nate Richie Rejects Delta’s $30K Offer, Says It Doesn’t Reflect Trauma After Crash Landing

Nate Richie, one of the survivors of Monday’s Delta Airlines crash in Toronto, is speaking out against the airline’s $30,000 offer to passengers, calling it insufficient given the emotional and psychological toll the incident has had on him.

In an exclusive interview, Richie, who has been struggling with sleeplessness since the crash, told us that the airline’s offer doesn’t come close to addressing the deep mental scars left by the traumatic experience. Richie, who hired attorney Ardalan Montazer to represent him, said he doesn’t believe he will ever be able to fly again due to the lasting fear and anxiety caused by the crash.

Instead of flying home to Florida, Richie is driving back, expressing that he feels disconnected from his family and has already reached out to a therapist to help him cope with the mental strain.

Delta’s $30K Offer and Legal Implications

As we previously reported, Delta has offered $30,000 to each of the passengers involved in the crash, claiming the offer comes with no strings attached, allowing survivors to still pursue legal action against the airline. However, for Richie, the offer doesn’t reflect the gravity of what he experienced during the crash, which involved hanging upside down in the plane as it descended.

A Close Call with Death

Richie recounted the harrowing moments of the crash, telling us how he feared for his life as he hung upside down with jet fuel wafting through the air. After the plane came to a stop, passengers and crew were able to evacuate, but Richie said the nightmare didn’t end there. Just moments after he exited the plane, an explosion occurred near the door where he had just been, adding to the horror of the situation.

Ongoing Investigation into the Crash

While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, Richie’s focus remains on recovering from the trauma. He emphasized that he needs more time to heal from the psychological effects, noting that the incident has left him deeply shaken.

As of now, the dispute over the settlement offer continues, with Richie asserting that no amount of money could make up for the emotional scars left by the crash.
