Along with being one of the greatest producers of all time, Pharrell Williams has cemented himself as a visionary in the fashion world. His latest collaboration with Adidas, the Superstar 92, offers a bold reinvention of one of the brand’s most iconic silhouettes.
A Tribute to Culture and Individuality
The Superstar 92 reimagines the classic Adidas Superstar, paying tribute to cultural legacy and individuality while embracing modern innovation. First unveiled during Paris Fashion Week in June, this highly anticipated release will be available at select Adidas retailers and online at Adidas.com starting March 1st.
Reimagining a ’90s Classic: The “Double Wide”
Bringing an ultra-sized twist to the traditional design, the Superstar 92, also known as the “Double Wide,” takes inspiration from ’90s skate shoes and ski boots. With exaggerated proportions, the sneaker maintains signature elements like the serrated shell toe and Adidas’ iconic three stripes.
Designed for both style and comfort, the shoe features thick padding for superior support and a chunky sole that merges “the robust structure of a snowboard boot with the unmistakable DNA of the Adidas Superstar.” Paying homage to Pharrell’s roots, the tongue of the sneaker is emblazoned with “VIRGINIA,” infusing the design with his signature home-state pride.
A Campaign Rooted in Virginia Beach
Pharrell enlisted hip-hop legends and longtime collaborators Clipse to lead the Superstar 92 campaign. Shot by Virginia native Cam Hicks, the visuals showcase the vibrant energy and creativity of Virginia Beach, further solidifying the sneaker’s connection to Pharrell’s hometown.
Clipse’s Return to Music with a Pharrell-Produced Album
Beyond their involvement in the Adidas campaign, Clipse also announced that their upcoming project will be entirely produced by Pharrell.
“I think the album shows the supreme maturation of a rap duo,” Pusha T stated. “This is where you get the difference between taste and filler. This music is curated—it’s a high-taste-level piece of work. You can only reach that level of artistry when you’ve mastered the fundamentals. I think it’s been missing in hip-hop for a while, and there’s also a competitive aspect to it.”
Malice added, “This album brings fans along to witness our growth. Unlike other genres, hip-hop doesn’t always allow for natural evolution. This is what the true evolution of Clipse looks like—high-level raps with meaning and depth.”
As both the Adidas Superstar 92 and Clipse’s upcoming album gear up for their releases, Pharrell continues to push the boundaries of both fashion and music, proving that his influence remains as powerful as ever.
