Los Angeles rapper Lefty Gunplay, known for his collaboration with Kendrick Lamar on the GNX standout track “TV Off,” has been arrested in El Paso, Texas, on multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance.
Arrest Details
According to El Paso jail records, Gunplay was booked on February 24 on three charges:
- Failure to wear a seat belt
- Possession of a prohibited item in a correctional facility
- Possession of a controlled substance (between 4 and 200 grams of an unspecified drug)
Under Texas law, a conviction for drug possession in this range could lead to up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Gunplay Speaks Out After Release
Gunplay posted a $35,000 bond and was released the same day. He had traveled to El Paso for a scheduled performance and party at Friends Sports Bar & Kitchen but missed the event due to his arrest.
In a conversation with local radio host Patti Diaz, he briefly addressed the situation:
“Later on, I’ll get into what really happened, but if you know, you know,” he said. “I feel like I gotta make it up to my El Paso fans. I know I have a lot of supporters in Texas. Things didn’t go as planned, but everything happens for a reason. I love Texas… Hopefully, we can make it right.”
Gunplay’s Recent Music & Kendrick Lamar Collab
Gunplay gained recognition after appearing on Kendrick Lamar’s GNX album. Last year, he hinted at a deluxe edition of GNX, revealing that Lamar might have unreleased material.
