Family in Mourning
His passing was also acknowledged by his sister, Angela Evans, who launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses, stating:
“This was completely unexpected. We are completely unprepared and are gonna need a little help getting him home from Denver, Colorado, and being able to give the memorial that not only he, but anyone, deserves.”
Kiker’s brother, William, also confirmed the tragic news, posting an emotional tribute on Facebook, calling Doug his “baby bro.”
Doug Kiker’s ‘American Idol’ Journey
Kiker first stole America’s heart in 2020 on American Idol’s Season 18, where he walked in as a humble garbage truck worker with no prior singing experience.
His raw talent and emotional performance of Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road” moved judge Katy Perry to tears, securing him a spot in the Hollywood round.
Though he was eliminated in the next round after performing Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” his underdog story and unfiltered joy became one of the most memorable moments of the season.
A Life Cut Too Short
Kiker’s journey from a small-town sanitation worker to a nationally recognized singer served as an inspiration to many. His passion for music and his humble, down-to-earth nature resonated deeply with fans.
He was just 32 years old.
