Bill Maher is calling out Hollywood’s latest language shift, slamming the industry for replacing “prostitute” with the more benign-sounding term “sex worker.”
On a recent episode of Real Time, Maher admitted that he loved the film Anora but argued that the terminology being used softens the harsh reality for many women in the industry.
“Calling it ‘sex work’ makes it sound like an office job, and it’s not,” Maher stated. He accused Hollywood of virtue signaling, insisting that for most women, prostitution isn’t a real choice—it’s an act of desperation.
Maher’s Stance on Legalization
Despite his criticism of sanitizing language, Maher has historically supported the legalization of prostitution, advocating for regulated sex work during his time hosting Politically Incorrect.
But when it comes to the debate around Andrew Tate and the political right’s stance on the issue, Maher didn’t hold back, blasting Republicans who either support Tate or stay silent on his controversies.
As Maher sees it, changing words won’t change reality—and Hollywood’s obsession with rebranding prostitution does more harm than good.
