Candiace Dillard Bassett is expressing her heartfelt support for her former Real Housewives costar Karen Huger following her DUI sentencing. In an interview outside Better Brothers Los Angeles’ Truth Awards, Candiace shared her sympathy for Karen, saying she feels “devastated” for her and her family after the March 2024 crash that led to her one-year prison sentence.
While Candiace acknowledged the seriousness of drinking and driving, she chose not to pile on to the public criticism that Karen has been facing online. “She’s going through a tough time, and people have been really mean about it,” Candiace said. “We all have our struggles.”
The former Real Housewives of Potomac star added that while Karen may be facing a difficult year ahead, she’s confident that Karen will come out of the experience stronger. “Karen’s probably taking names and kicking ass in there,” Candiace said, noting that she believes Karen will inspire others during her time in prison.
Though Candiace revealed that she hasn’t spoken to Karen since the sentencing, the two were in contact before the court ruling, and Candiace says she is keeping her friend in her prayers.
Karen’s sentence stems from a crash last March, where she struck a median, a crosswalk sign, and a parking sign before coming to a stop. In addition to her one-year sentence, Karen will face five years of supervised probation and a driving ban, along with a fine once she is able to drive again.
While Karen’s next year may be challenging, it’s clear that she has at least one former costar standing by her side through the ordeal.
