Vince Staples has officially thrown his name into the hat for a role in the upcoming Power Rangers live-action series on Disney+.
After news broke that Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were leading the project, the Long Beach rapper wasted no time making his interest known. On March 19, he took to X (formerly Twitter) with a simple but direct message:
“Call me, [on the] dead homies.”
Fans React to Staples’ Interest
His post ignited mixed reactions online. Some warned him about the so-called ‘Power Rangers curse’, referring to the troubled pasts of former cast members. But Staples, never one to hold back, responded sharply:
“I’ll die for what I believe in, n**ga.”
Others were fully on board with the idea. Some fans imagined him as a gun-toting, street-smart Blue Ranger, while others edited his face onto classic Rangers, further fueling the hype.
Why Vince Staples Might Be a Good Fit
According to TheWrap, Disney+ and Hasbro plan to “reinvent the franchise for a new generation while keeping longtime fans engaged.”
For Staples, an acting role wouldn’t be far-fetched. He’s been making strides in Hollywood, with his Netflix series The Vince Staples Show renewed for a second season just weeks after its February 2024 premiere. His past TV appearances in Dope, White Men Can’t Jump, Insecure, and Abbott Elementary prove he has both comedic timing and screen presence. Plus, his voice work in animation has been well received.
Will Staples Join the Power Rangers Universe?
While there’s no official word from Disney+, Staples’ interest alone has sparked major fan excitement. Whether he lands the role or not, one thing is clear—fans are more than ready to see him morph into action.
