Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, is demanding that the murder-for-hire case against him be dismissed — accusing prosecutors of using inaccurate and misleading information to sway a grand jury, including misinterpreting his lyrics from a song he claims was written long before the incident in question.

The Allegation: Lyrics Used As “Proof”

Prosecutors allege Durk orchestrated a 2022 shooting targeting fellow rapper Quando Rondo in retaliation for the death of his close friend and collaborator King Von. Central to their case is Durk’s verse on the song “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy,” a track by Babyface Ray featuring Durk.

But according to court filings, Durk’s legal team says the song was written and recorded well before the alleged shooting, making its use as evidence both misleading and damaging. They argue the government either knowingly or recklessly presented the timeline incorrectly, undermining the validity of the grand jury indictment.

“The government’s misrepresentation in the Superseding Indictment… undermines the integrity of the grand jury’s true bill against Mr. Banks,” the defense wrote.

Fan-Made Edits Enter the Courtroom

In a separate motion, Durk’s attorneys are also urging the judge to reconsider his release from jail, where he’s been held since October 2024. The team blasted prosecutors for presenting fan-made videos — mashups of Durk’s lyrics with Quando Rondo’s voice — as evidence, even though Durk had no involvement in creating or sharing that content.

“Using social media clips created by unknown individuals to link Mr. Banks to a crime he didn’t commit is both unfair and irresponsible,” the defense argued.

Bail Denied Despite $3 Million Offer

Durk’s team had previously offered a $3 million bail package, but the court denied it, citing a pattern of criminal behavior and alleging that Durk violated jail policies by making unauthorized phone calls.

Trial Date Set For October 14, 2025

Durk continues to deny all charges and maintains there is no direct evidence tying him to the murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the death of Quando Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab.

Prosecutors are still combing through a mountain of evidence, including digital records, surveillance footage, and witness statements. But Durk’s lawyers are hoping the case won’t make it to trial — at least not in its current form.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more updates on Lil Durk’s legal battle as the October 2025 trial approaches.
