Donald Trump is known for his strong opinions, and this time, he’s turning his attention to the NFL Draft — and he’s not happy. The former president took to Truth Social on Friday to voice his frustration over the league’s decision to pass on Shedeur Sanders in the first round.
In a passionate post that echoed the style of NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr., Trump questioned the intelligence of NFL executives, calling out team owners for not drafting the 23-year-old quarterback and son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?” Trump wrote.
“Deion Sanders was a great college football player and an even greater NFL star. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart!”
“Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES and is all set for greatness. He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”
Shedeur Sanders’ Draft Status Raises Eyebrows
Despite being projected by many analysts to go as high as No. 3 overall, Shedeur Sanders was not selected during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night. That pick, held by the New York Giants, was instead used to draft Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter, leaving Sanders still on the board.
Trump’s vocal defense of Shedeur, rooted in his admiration for Deion Sanders’ football legacy and coaching career, only intensified the spotlight already on the young quarterback.
