Former NFL wide receiver Justin Blackmon was arrested for public intoxication earlier this month in Stillwater, Oklahoma — but not before getting a quick college football history lesson from the officer who detained him.
Blackmon Stopped on OSU Campus in Early Morning Hours
According to police body cam footage obtained by TMZ Sports, the ex-Jacksonville Jaguars star — and standout Oklahoma State University (OSU) alum — was stopped around 1:30 AM on April 19 after officers suspected he was intoxicated while roaming the Stillwater campus.
Blackmon, now 35 years old, was unsteady, slurring his words, and visibly disoriented during the encounter. He wore a hoodie and visibly soaked pants and couldn’t give officers a clear answer about where he was headed, despite repeated questioning.
From Detainment to a Football Debate
Interestingly, before placing him in cuffs, one OSU campus officer paused the arrest to talk football. When Blackmon mentioned he played for the Cowboys and “went to the league,” the cop asked if he had played under Coach Mike Gundy.
Blackmon, confused, responded, “Who else would I have played for?” — prompting the officer to reference Les Miles, who coached at OSU briefly before Gundy took over.
The brief football chat provided a surreal moment of levity amid an otherwise concerning arrest. Eventually, the conversation gave way to Blackmon being transported to jail.
Blackmon Drifted Off During Ride, Booked and Released
In the police vehicle, Blackmon appeared to fall in and out of sleep before being booked on one criminal charge for public intoxication. He was released shortly after posting bond.
Blackmon’s History with Substance Issues
Blackmon, a top-five pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, had a promising start with the Jaguars but saw his career derailed by multiple violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He has been out of the league since 2013 and has remained largely out of the public eye.
He has not issued a public statement regarding this latest incident.
