The wrestling world is mourning the loss of hardcore legend Sabu, who has passed away at the age of 60 — just three weeks after his final in-ring appearance. All Elite Wrestling (AEW) confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media, honoring the extreme icon for his “unforgettable high-risk moments” and dedication to the sport.
While AEW did not disclose a cause of death, the organization extended its deepest condolences to Sabu’s family, friends, and fans worldwide.
A Hardcore Pioneer
Born Terry Brunk, Sabu began his wrestling career in the mid-1980s, trained by his uncle, wrestling legend Edward “The Sheik” Farhat. He quickly gained attention for his fearless style and extreme wrestling tactics, making a name for himself in Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW) in 1991.
There, he earned his signature battle scars — deep marks on his arms and torso that sparked rumors of self-harm. However, those close to him insisted the injuries were all part of his intense in-ring performances.
From ECW to WWE
Sabu went on to become a staple in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), captivating fans with his brutal, high-flying maneuvers. He later appeared in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and had a brief run in WWE from 2006 to 2007.
Even as time went on, Sabu continued to wrestle sporadically, thrilling longtime fans with his enduring energy. His final match took place on April 18, 2025, in what was promoted as his retirement rumble — just three weeks before his death.
Personal Life and Loss
In the 2010s, Sabu was in a relationship with fellow pro wrestler Melissa Coates, who sadly passed away in 2021 due to complications related to COVID-19. The couple shared a strong bond both in and out of the ring, and her loss deeply affected him.
Legacy of Violence and Passion
Sabu’s fearless contributions to professional wrestling earned him a cult following and a legacy of toughness, innovation, and heart. He helped shape the hardcore wrestling scene, leaving a mark that will never be forgotten.
Terry “Sabu” Brunk was 60 years old.
Rest in Peace, Hardcore Legend.
