Halle Bailey has officially been awarded sole legal and physical custody of her infant son, Halo Saint, following a court decision that stems from troubling allegations involving her ex-boyfriend and the child’s father, rapper and YouTube personality DDG (real name Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.).
According to court records obtained by PEOPLE, the custody ruling comes after Bailey, 25, accused the 27-year-old rapper of repeated emotional and physical abuse during their relationship and after their child’s birth in December 2023. The couple’s relationship reportedly ended in early 2024.
Bailey’s court filings paint a disturbing picture of the alleged abuse, prompting her to request a temporary restraining order against DDG. The order requires him to stay at least 100 yards away from both Bailey and their son. This order will remain in place at least until a court hearing scheduled for June 2025.
Supervised Visitation and Travel Restrictions
In her legal documents, Bailey requested that DDG not be allowed unsupervised visits with Halo. Instead, she proposed that if any visits are permitted, they should occur once a week in Los Angeles, under the supervision of a professional visitation service.
To further protect her son, Bailey asked the court to prevent DDG from removing Halo from Los Angeles County without her written permission. She also filed for a child abduction prevention order, detailing past incidents in which DDG allegedly hid their son from her, refused to communicate about parenting, and threatened to take the child away.
Strict Travel Safeguards
Bailey also requested that the court bar DDG from applying for or possessing any travel documents or a passport for their son unless she consents in writing. If she agrees to allow Halo to travel with his father, she wants DDG to be required to provide full travel details, including flight numbers, addresses, and contact information.
In her official statement to the court, Bailey expressed a deep sense of urgency and fear for her and her son’s well-being:
“I realize that there is no placating Darryl. I cannot allow this abuse any longer. I cannot keep living like this.”
A Tumultuous Chapter for Halle Bailey
The custody win comes during what has been both a triumphant and turbulent time for Bailey. Professionally, she has enjoyed major success in her career, including her widely praised role as Ariel in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. However, behind the scenes, she has been navigating a challenging personal journey as a new mother and survivor of alleged abuse.
Bailey kept her pregnancy largely private, later revealing she gave birth to Halo in December 2023, delighting fans with a heartfelt message on social media announcing his arrival.
What’s Next?
With sole custody granted and a restraining order in place, Halle Bailey is taking decisive legal action to protect her son and begin a new chapter as a single mother. The court will revisit the matter in June 2025, when a hearing will determine whether the current restrictions should remain, be modified, or lifted.
As of now, DDG has not publicly responded to the court’s decision or the allegations made by Bailey.
