Loren Ruch, beloved HGTV executive and cohost of “HGTV House Party,” has passed away at 55. The longtime media figure died Thursday at Mount Sinai in New York City following complications from pneumonia — a heartbreaking turn after a year-long battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
Cancer-Free, But Immune System Left Vulnerable
According to his mother, Dolly Norris, Loren had been diagnosed with leukemia about a year ago, but beat it after extensive treatment. However, his immune system had been left weakened in the process.
He was recently hospitalized for a bowel blockage, and during his recovery, he contracted pneumonia, which led to a rapid and devastating decline in his health. His mother confirms to TMZ that Loren was cancer-free at the time of his death.
“Just weeks ago, he seemed to be on the road to recovery,” Dolly shared. But sadly, things worsened quickly, including a collapsed lung that contributed to his passing.
Hollywood Mourns a Bright Light
In a heartfelt internal memo, Channing Dungey, chair of the Warner Bros. Television Group, honored Loren as “the rare leader who lifted everyone around him.”
His mother echoed those sentiments, calling him “the most humble of people” whose presence “lit up every room.”
A Life of Creativity and Kindness
Ruch had a celebrated career overseeing some of HGTV’s most popular programming and was a familiar face to fans through his hosting duties. Beyond his television accomplishments, friends and family remember him for his warm spirit, generous leadership, and unwavering authenticity.
Plans for Remembrance
The family will first hold a small private service in NYC, followed by a larger celebration of life in Los Angeles — per Loren’s wishes.
