Charlamagne Tha God is not here for reckless commentary—and Hitmaka just learned that the hard way.

The Breakfast Club host didn’t mince words on Wednesday morning’s show, ripping into the music producer for his viral BET Awards weekend interview where he made a string of jaw-dropping comments about Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jeffrey Epstein, and George Floyd—and got nearly everything wrong.

“Donkey of the Day” Award Goes To… Hitmaka

During The Breakfast Club’s now-infamous “Donkey of the Day” segment, Charlamagne replayed Hitmaka’s interview with Loren LoRosa and could barely believe what he was hearing.

“You sounded like a complete jackass,” Charlamagne declared.
“Bro, you didn’t just miss the mark—you launched yourself into another universe of ignorance.”

So, what exactly did Hitmaka say that earned him such a viral dragging?

The Interview That Sparked Backlash

While attending the 2025 BET Awards, Hitmaka—best known for his production hits and early career as Yung Berg—was asked about the ongoing legal troubles surrounding Diddy, who is facing serious civil allegations of sex trafficking and misconduct.

But instead of a measured take, Hitmaka launched into a bizarre defense of the embattled mogul:

“Free Diddy,” he said confidently.
“He was just high and freaky.”

Then came the head-scratcher comparison:

“Jeffrey Epstein got house arrest… Diddy flying around don’t mean nothing.”

(Quick fact check: Epstein was never granted house arrest. He was denied bail in 2019 and died in federal custody.)

But the moment that truly crossed the line for many—including Charlamagne—was when Hitmaka added:

“Derek Chauvin is walking free out here.”

That’s false—Chauvin, the former Minneapolis officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, is currently serving over 20 years in federal and state prison.

Charlamagne GOES OFF: “This Is Why Facts Matter”

Charlamagne used his platform to not only correct the falsehoods but to issue a reality check that many found overdue in hip-hop circles:

“You can’t just say anything because you’re at an awards show and feel like defending your friend,” he said.
“You have a platform. With that comes responsibility.”

He continued, calling out Hitmaka’s attempt to tie unrelated cases together as reckless:

“Comparing Epstein to Diddy? Chauvin to Diddy? Come on, man. If you wanna make a point, make a valid one.”

Charlamagne added that if Hitmaka really wanted to highlight legal hypocrisy, he could’ve brought up the recent sex trafficking allegations against former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Michael Jeffries—a lesser-known but valid parallel.

Social Media Reacts: “Donkey Energy All Around”

Once the clip aired, social media exploded with reactions—many echoing Charlamagne’s sentiment.

“What did I just hear from Hitmaka?!?” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“You can’t just mash up random cases and expect people to nod along.”

Others called it “dangerous” to misuse George Floyd’s legacy to score points in a completely unrelated legal debate.

“George Floyd was murdered—that case went global. If you’re going to speak on it, know the facts,” a user added.

The Bigger Problem: Influence Without Insight?

Charlamagne didn’t just come for Hitmaka—he used the moment to reflect on a growing issue in today’s digital age: uninformed influencers shaping narratives.

“This is what’s wrong with the world,” he said.
“People speaking loud and wrong, with confidence, on things they haven’t read a single article about.”

It’s a problem that’s only amplified during major cultural events like the BET Awards, where cameras are rolling and microphones are hot—but thoughtful commentary is often lacking.

Recap: The Facts That Matter

Let’s set the record straight with a quick facts rundown:

  • Diddy is currently under federal investigation and faces civil lawsuits involving sexual misconduct. He has not been criminally convicted as of June 2025.
  • Jeffrey Epstein was never placed on house arrest after his 2019 arrest. He was denied bail and died in federal custody.
  • Derek Chauvin was convicted in 2021 for the murder of George Floyd and is serving a 22.5-year sentence, with additional time added later under federal charges.
  • George Floyd’s murder sparked global protests, legislative action, and a cultural reckoning with police brutality and systemic racism.

Will Hitmaka Respond?

So far, Hitmaka hasn’t commented on Charlamagne’s takedown—or walked back any of his original statements. But given how loud this moment is trending, a response may be coming sooner rather than later.

Some fans are calling for an apology, while others think it’s time for Hitmaka to “take the L and log off.”

Final Thoughts

Charlamagne didn’t hold back—and he had good reason not to.

“We have to be better. Especially when we have a voice. Especially when we have influence,” he said in closing.
“Say less. Read more.”

Amen to that.
