Houston rapper Maxo Kream found himself behind bars after what authorities claim was a short-lived attempt to flee a traffic stop — though his legal team insists the story isn’t so cut and dry.
According to Jeff McShan, a rep for Harris County CSCD, Maxo was initially pulled over for an expired license plate, which hadn’t been renewed since May.
Law enforcement claims Maxo, whose real name is Emekwanem Ogugua Biosah Jr., briefly pulled over before allegedly taking off once the officer exited their vehicle.
A Short “Escape” and Weapons Charges
Although there was no high-speed chase, officers say Maxo didn’t go far before deciding to pull over again voluntarily. When police searched his vehicle, they reportedly found two firearms inside.
Because Maxo is listed as a registered gang member, he was also hit with a charge for unlawful carrying of a weapon.
He now faces a misdemeanor charge of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, according to charging documents obtained by TMZ Hip Hop.
Maxo’s Attorney Speaks Out
In response to the arrest, Maxo’s attorney, Carl A. Moore, issued a firm statement denying the allegations:
“Maxo did not flee from the police; he complied with the commands of the arresting officer. We plan to fight these accusations in court.”
Maxo is scheduled to appear in court on July 7, where the case could see its first major developments.
