The baseball world is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Bobby Jenks, a 2x MLB All-Star and World Series champion with the Chicago White Sox, who passed away Friday after a valiant fight with stage 4 stomach cancer. He was only 44 years old.
Jenks, known for his fiery 100+ MPH fastball and larger-than-life personality, was one of baseball’s most feared closers during his seven-season Major League career.
Jenks’ Brave Battle With Cancer
In February 2025, Jenks revealed in an emotional interview that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma—a devastating form of stomach cancer that had spread to his bones and stomach lining.
Speaking from a hospital bed in Portugal, where he and his family had recently relocated, Jenks opened up about his health struggles.
🗣️ “It started with fatigue, then came the tests, and then… the tumor,” he said at the time.
To make matters even more tragic, the family had also lost their home and nearly all of their belongings in the Palisades wildfires before moving overseas.
A Dominant Force on the Mound
On the diamond, Jenks was a powerhouse.
- 🎯 Key player in the White Sox’s 2005 World Series run
- ⭐ Named to the MLB All-Star Team in 2006 & 2007
- 🔥 Famous for his blazing fastball that topped 100 MPH
- 🧢 Finished his career with the Boston Red Sox in 2011 before retiring as a player
⚾️ “He was fearless. When Bobby took the mound, you felt the game was in good hands,” former teammate Paul Konerko said in a tribute.
👨👩👧👦 A Loving Husband and Father
Off the field, Jenks embraced life as a husband and father of six.
After retiring, he transitioned to coaching and managing, including serving as the skipper for the Grand Junction Rockies, a minor league affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.
He is survived by his wife, Eleni, and their six children.
🕊️ “He fought with incredible strength and left us with memories that will never fade,” the Jenks family shared in a statement.
