It looks like Diddy won’t be getting a presidential lifeline anytime soon—at least not from Donald Trump. In a revealing new interview with Newsmax, the former president admitted that his stance on potentially pardoning music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has changed dramatically.

Why the sudden shift? According to Trump, it’s not just Diddy’s recent legal woes—it’s personal.

“He Made Some Terrible Statements”

Once friendly with the Bad Boy Records founder, Trump now says that Diddy’s behavior during the 2020 presidential campaign created a rift that’s hard to ignore.

“He made some terrible statements,” Trump told Newsmax. “When I ran for office, he was very hostile. It’s hard, you know? We’re human beings.”

Trump referenced comments Diddy made during a 2020 interview with Charlamagne Tha God, where the mogul called for “white men like Trump” to be “banished.” The remarks clearly stuck with Trump.

“We don’t like to have things cloud our judgment,” he continued, “but when you knew someone and you were fine, and then you run for office, and he made some terrible statements… So I don’t know. It makes it more difficult to do.”

“Half-Innocent”—But Still Complicated

While Trump conceded that Diddy might be “half-innocent” in the eyes of the law, he isn’t rushing to the music mogul’s defense. Diddy was convicted on prostitution-related charges in May 2025, and his legal battles are still mounting—including multiple sexual assault lawsuits, one of which recently named his late friend Biggie’s son, CJ Wallace, as a co-defendant.

Despite this, Trump originally seemed open to the idea of a pardon. Back in May, during a press conference, he said he’d “have to look” into Diddy’s case, adding that he hadn’t been closely following the details.

Now, it appears Diddy’s outspoken political commentary may have sealed his fate—or at least postponed his chance at redemption.

From Friendly to Fallout: A Complicated Relationship

Trump didn’t hesitate to bring up his past with Diddy, claiming their relationship was once “very friendly.”

“I got along with him great, and [he] seemed like a nice guy,” Trump said. “I didn’t know him well, but he used to really like me a lot.”

But the shift in their dynamic, Trump claims, happened the moment he entered politics.

“I think when I ran for politics, it busted up that relationship from what I read.”

That’s not surprising given Diddy’s long history of political activism—especially his push for Black voter engagement and police reform, which often placed him at odds with Trump-era policies.

Q: Sean Diddy Combs. Would you consider pardoning him?

Well, he was essentially, I guess, sort of half innocent. Probably— I was very friendly with him but when I ran for office he was very hostile and it’s hard. So, I don't know, it's more difficult.

Q: More likely a no?… pic.twitter.com/FrrzquR6qs

Fans React to the Presidential Tea

Social media exploded once Trump’s latest comments went viral. Some fans criticized the former president for letting personal grievances influence matters of justice, while others felt Diddy’s controversial history made a pardon inappropriate regardless of politics.

Twitter/X users sounded off:

  • “So Trump won’t pardon Diddy because his feelings got hurt? That’s wild.”
  • “Diddy has too much going on right now. A pardon would just make this mess worse.”
  • “Imagine being this petty when you’re a former president.”

What’s Next for Diddy?

With a pardon looking less and less likely, all eyes are on Diddy’s growing list of legal troubles. The music mogul, once hailed as a hip-hop pioneer and business icon, is now battling both criminal convictions and explosive civil lawsuits that continue to dominate headlines.

Some insiders speculate that Diddy may attempt to rebuild his public image through philanthropy, a new album rollout, or even a tell-all interview. But for now, he remains one of the most polarizing figures in pop culture—and increasingly radioactive in political circles.
