Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had a terrifying brush with danger last year — though the public only recently learned the details. On May 4, 2024, a bullet smashed through a window at the team’s practice facility and lodged in a wall near Reid’s bathroom — just 15 feet from his desk.
Miraculously, no one was injured, including the three-time Super Bowl-winning coach.
What Happened
The Kansas City Police Department confirmed the incident is still under investigation. A spokesperson stressed there’s no evidence the shooting was aimed at any person or organization.
“Because the building was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault,” the rep said.
According to reports from The Kansas City Star, the facility sustained two other bullet hits during the shooting.

Safety Measures
In response to the scare, Reid’s office has reportedly upgraded to bulletproof glass. Neither the coach nor the Chiefs organization has publicly commented on the incident.
The shooting serves as a reminder of the unexpected dangers public figures and sports organizations can face — even while going about a normal day at work.
Andy Reid’s Legacy
Despite the scare, Reid remains a giant in the NFL, leading the Chiefs to multiple Super Bowl appearances and cementing his legacy as one of the league’s most respected coaches.
Fans and teammates alike have expressed relief that Reid came out unscathed, and authorities continue to investigate the bizarre, seemingly random shooting.
