Elijah Kitaka Calls for a Mindset Shift Among Ugandan Musicians to Achieve Global Success

Ugandan musician and creative entrepreneur Elijah Kitaka has spoken out about the challenges preventing Ugandan music from crossing international borders. According to Kitaka, the key issue lies in the mindset of many creatives in the country, with complacency and a lack of ambition being significant barriers to global success.

For years, Ugandan artists have strived to break into the international market, but only a few have managed to achieve notable success. Kitaka believes this is due to a reluctance among some musicians to think beyond local fame.

The Challenge: Complacency Among Artists

Kitaka highlighted a widespread tendency among local artists to become content with their songs playing on Ugandan radio stations without aspiring for broader recognition.

“First of all, number one, the mindset of us the creatives,” Kitaka said. “Some artists are comfortable with their music playing on local stations without the dream of being played elsewhere.”

This mindset, according to Kitaka, has hindered the global potential of Ugandan music, as artists often settle for regional fame without exploring the possibilities of appealing to international audiences.

The Path to Global Success: Pushing Boundaries

Unlike those who are content with local recognition, Kitaka is determined to push boundaries and take Ugandan music to the next level. His ambition extends to pursuing international acclaim, including nominations for global awards.

“For me, I want to go the furthest I can, even if it’s a nomination for an award,” he shared, emphasizing the importance of dreaming big and working hard to achieve those dreams.

Losing Focus After Success

Kitaka also criticized the tendency among some Ugandan artists to lose focus after achieving minor success. He noted that many artists become complacent after producing one hit song, failing to build on that momentum to sustain long-term careers.

“You see artists here get one hit song and start getting excited and don’t want to do anything extra,” he explained.

This lack of follow-through, Kitaka argued, prevents artists from evolving and refining their craft to compete on the international stage.

Refining the Sound: A Call for Investment in Quality

In addition to a mindset shift, Kitaka stressed the need for Ugandan musicians to invest more time and effort in refining their sound to appeal to broader audiences. He believes that producing high-quality music that resonates with diverse listeners is key to achieving international recognition.

Ugandan artists, Kitaka said, must embrace innovation, collaborate with global talent, and adapt their music to meet international standards while staying true to their roots.

Kitaka’s Vision for Ugandan Music

Elijah Kitaka’s vision for Ugandan music is rooted in ambition and innovation. He believes that with the right mindset, focus, and investment in quality, Ugandan musicians have the potential to shine on the global stage.

Kitaka’s call to action is a reminder that true success requires dedication, persistence, and a willingness to push past comfort zones.

Final Thoughts

As Ugandan artists continue to navigate the complexities of the global music industry, voices like Elijah Kitaka’s serve as an important wake-up call. The challenges are clear: complacency, loss of focus, and a lack of investment in refining sound. However, with a shift in mindset and a renewed focus on excellence, the potential for Ugandan music to achieve global acclaim is within reach.

For creatives in the industry, the message is simple: dream big, work hard, and never settle for less.
