“He Should Be Home With His Family,” Says Rose as Calls Grow to Free the Rapper
Amber Rose has taken a bold public stance in defense of Tory Lanez, the rapper currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, claiming the Canadian artist is innocent and deserves to be pardoned by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
During a recent interview on Cuomo on NewsNation, Rose said she’s thoroughly reviewed the case and found serious issues with how the evidence was presented and interpreted.
“I’m advocating for Tory Lanez because the evidence shows that he’s innocent,” she told Chris Cuomo. “He’s 100 percent exonerated from the gun, and for that alone, he should be home with his family.”
Tory Lanez Personally Called Amber Rose From Prison
Rose also revealed that Lanez called her directly from prison, sharing his version of events and clarifying what many believed to be a confession text message sent to Megan after the shooting.
According to Rose, that message was misunderstood.
“His apology wasn’t about the shooting,” she explained. “It was about a personal issue that had nothing to do with the incident.”
Rose’s comments add to the growing conversation around the case, which has sparked controversy, conspiracy theories, and heated debates across the internet and hip-hop community since 2020.
Political Support: Rep. Luna Backs Tory Lanez, Questions Trial Fairness
Joining Rose in the fight is Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to publicly support a pardon for Tory Lanez, citing deep concerns about trial bias and the integrity of the evidence.
“I am calling on Gov. Newsom @CAgovernor to review Tory Lanez’s case and issue a pardon,” Luna posted. “His 10-year sentence was based on flawed evidence, political pressure, and prosecutorial bias. Justice must be blind – not driven by headlines. Free Tory Lanez.”
Luna’s comments mark a rare case of a sitting member of Congress weighing in on a high-profile celebrity criminal case.
A Case That Still Divides the Public
Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted in 2022 of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence after an altercation in Los Angeles involving Megan Thee Stallion.
Megan, who sustained gunshot wounds to her feet, testified that Lanez shouted “Dance, b****!” before allegedly firing at her — a statement that quickly went viral and ignited national outrage.
However, Lanez and his legal team have continuously denied the allegations, maintaining that he did not shoot Megan, and instead pointing to inconsistencies in witness testimonies, possible evidence mishandling, and media bias that painted him guilty before trial even began.
The Call to Governor Gavin Newsom
Amber Rose and Rep. Luna are now urging California Gov. Gavin Newsom to revisit the case and consider a pardon, which would effectively clear Lanez of his conviction and release him from prison.
Though Newsom has not responded to the calls, the pressure is mounting. If he acts, it would be one of the most high-profile pardons of a celebrity in recent history — and one that could set legal and political precedent.
Social Media Reacts: Support & Backlash
Online reactions to Rose’s comments have been mixed. Some fans praised her for “standing up for the truth,” while others accused her of “ignoring the victim’s trauma” and “spreading misinformation.”
“Amber Rose speaking out is bold — but I’m not convinced,” one user commented.
“The trial happened. He was convicted. Why are we rewriting the facts?” asked another.
Still, there is a vocal group rallying behind Rose and Luna, reigniting hashtags like #FreeToryLanez and #JusticeForTory across social media platforms.
What’s Next?
With celebrity backing and now political involvement, the push to free Tory Lanez has taken on a new level of visibility. Whether or not Gov. Newsom takes action remains to be seen, but this controversy is far from over.
Will new evidence ever come to light — or is this just another example of high-profile figures influencing public opinion?
Stay tuned for updates as the story unfolds.
