Celebrated Ugandan comedienne Anne Kansiime has opened up about the profound impact her late mother, Mrs. Gauda Kubiryaba, had on her life and career, revealing that she was the real comedian in the family.
Kansiime’s mother passed away in June 2021 after battling Covid-19, leaving behind a lasting legacy. In a recent interview, Kansiime reflected on how her mother’s humor and personality were a major inspiration for her craft.

“My mother was my source of content. People think I’m funny, but my mom just didn’t have the audience I have. She was a mad woman—she was the absolute motivation for nearly everything.”
Losing Her Mother While Becoming a Parent
The comedian also opened up about the difficult experience of losing her parents right after giving birth, explaining how it left her feeling lost as a new parent.
“You’re trying to figure out how to be a parent yourself, but I had no reference.”
