Renowned gospel singer Baby Gloria has opened up about her struggles with gaining independence, revealing how her journey as a firstborn child and a celebrity came with unique challenges.
In a candid YouTube interview, the singer shared that her mother was extremely protective, especially when she completed high school and desired to move out for university.
A Battle for Freedom
Gloria explained that while she had envisioned living on her own, her mother was strongly opposed to the idea.
“Someone might not understand where I’m coming from, but as the firstborn child and a celebrity, the amount of strictness was too much,” she said.
She noted that her mother’s protectiveness stemmed from love and concern, wanting to shield her from public scrutiny, media tabloids, and negative influences. However, the overprotectiveness left her feeling stifled and restricted.
“I kept on singing about my need for freedom, but she dictated where I was supposed to live, where I should go, and said I couldn’t live in a hostel, among other things. But at that point, I didn’t care about all that—I just wanted to leave home,” Gloria revealed.
Returning Home Before Marriage
Despite her initial determination to live independently, Baby Gloria has since moved back home. She disclosed that her decision was intentional, as she wanted to spend more time with her family before stepping into the next phase of her life.
“I came back home to give them at least one year with me before I get married,” she stated.
Her revelation has sparked conversations about strict parenting, independence, and the pressure celebrities face behind closed doors.
