BET is preparing a monumental celebration to honor the 25th anniversary of its iconic music video countdown show, 106 & Park. Once the epicenter of Black youth culture, the legendary program is getting a well-deserved tribute during this year’s BET Experience, ahead of the annual BET Awards.
As part of the milestone celebration, BET is bringing back a powerhouse lineup of former hosts who helped define the show’s legacy. AJ & Free, Terrence J, Rocsi Diaz, Julissa Bermudez, Bow Wow, and Keshia Chanté will all reunite to relive the magic that made 106 & Park a must-watch for music fans across the globe.
In addition to the emotional homecoming of the show’s beloved hosts, the celebration will feature a stellar lineup of live performances. Artists set to take the stage include Amerie, B2K, Bow Wow, Mya, T.I., and more—each of whom played a role in shaping the show’s unforgettable moments over the years.
A Legacy That Transcends Generations
Launched in 2000, 106 & Park quickly became a cornerstone of Black entertainment and music culture. From its signature countdown of the hottest music videos to its lively interviews, live studio audience, and career-launching segments like “Freestyle Friday,” the show wasn’t just about the music—it was about the movement.
Scott Mills, President and CEO of BET, shared his excitement about commemorating the legacy of a show that became a defining voice for a generation.
“106 & Park was more than just a music countdown show; it was the heartbeat of Black youth culture and one of the highest-rated BET programs for over a decade,” Mills said. “From Freestyle Friday to unforgettable live performances, it launched careers, influenced fashion, and became a platform where voices, style, and sound converged.”
He added, “106 & Park both celebrated and fueled many of the most important musical and cultural evolutions that occurred during its two-and-a-half-decade tenure.”
A Cultural Touchstone Reimagined
Connie Orlando, Executive Vice President of Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the lasting impact of the series on both fans and artists.
“106 & Park served as a cultural touchstone, embodying the energy, creativity, and authenticity of a generation,” Orlando stated. “It provided artists a direct connection to their fans, transforming everyday moments into lasting memories. The show’s legacy continues to influence how we engage with music, connect with talent, and celebrate Black creativity.”
She added, “We are thrilled to commemorate 25 years of this iconic series at this year’s BET Awards.”
When and Where to Watch the Anniversary Celebration
The 106 & Park 25th Anniversary Reunion will take place two days before the main BET Awards show, hosted by comedian and actor Kevin Hart. The celebration is scheduled to unfold at the Los Angeles Convention Center as part of the BET Experience Fan Fest Live—a multi-day cultural event leading up to the big night.
Fans attending the BETX Fan Fest can expect to enjoy nostalgic moments, emotional reunions, and high-energy performances that pay tribute to one of BET’s most influential programs. It’s not just a celebration—it’s a recognition of a cultural powerhouse that helped shape the music industry and bring Black youth culture to the forefront.
From launching the careers of global superstars to defining fashion trends and fostering unforgettable fan moments, 106 & Park remains a beloved part of music television history. And now, 25 years later, its legacy lives on through the artists, hosts, and millions of fans who helped make it iconic.
