Big Eye StarBoss Declares Intention to Run for Parliamentary Seat in 2026-2031 Term

Mayanja Ibrahim, widely known by his stage name Big Eye StarBoss, has officially announced his political ambitions, revealing plans to contest for a parliamentary seat in the 2026-2031 term. The singer and former National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporter took to his social media platforms to address critics who have questioned his involvement in politics, reaffirming his deep commitment to the country’s future.

In his statement, Big Eye made it clear that he has no intentions of stepping away from politics. He responded directly to those who have suggested that he should focus on his music career instead of politics. “I’m tired of seeing comments from some people saying, ‘Big Eye, leave politics and focus on music.’ So, let me set the record straight: I am deeply involved and committed to the politics of my country, and I will never step away from it,” he wrote.

Big Eye’s Commitment to Political Engagement

The “Big Eye” hitmaker emphasized the importance of being politically engaged, explaining that the state of the nation deeply affects every citizen, including him. “It matters to me greatly as a Ugandan citizen because the state of our nation affects us all. Politics is what determines the future of every Ugandan,” he stated.

His decision to enter politics is further driven by his desire to contribute meaningfully to his country. Encouraged by Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, the National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Big Eye expressed his intent to run for a parliamentary seat in the upcoming election. He revealed that Bobi Wine’s call for more youth participation in politics was a major motivating factor for him to step forward.

Balancing Politics with His Music Career

While his political journey is taking center stage, Big Eye reassured his supporters that his music career will not take a back seat. “Music is my business, but my commitment to my country is a priority,” he stated, making it clear that he will continue his musical pursuits while actively engaging in politics.

Big Eye also took the opportunity to address his switch in political affiliation. In 2023, he transitioned from being an active supporter of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to aligning himself with the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP). His move to NUP, alongside his public political statements, highlights his shift in political ideology and commitment to change.

Big Eye’s Political Philosophy and Goals

As Big Eye considers running for office in the 2026-2031 term, he reflected on the importance of youth involvement in shaping the country’s future. “I should consider running for a Parliamentary seat in 2026-2031 term in my constituency as our president HE Robert Kyagulanyi has strongly encouraged us to do. This will allow me to contribute more actively and practically in serving my country well,” he added.

Big Eye’s message underscores the belief that the youth must step up to be the change they want to see in Uganda’s political landscape. “First off, I am above 18 years old. Second, if not us, then who? And third, music is my business, but my commitment to my country is a priority,” he concluded, signaling his readiness to take on the challenge.

Looking Forward to the 2026 Elections

As Big Eye StarBoss gears up for his potential parliamentary run, it remains to be seen how his political journey will unfold. His move to NUP, alongside his musical fame and growing political profile, will likely make him a notable figure in the 2026 elections. Whether or not he secures a parliamentary seat, Big Eye’s bold declaration marks an important moment in Uganda’s evolving political scene.
