Brittany Renner and Kevin Gates have ended their whirlwind marriage just 52 days after saying “I do.” The Basketball Wives star revealed in a candid interview on June 7th that the couple quietly tied the knot on April 6th and officially divorced on May 28th—less than two months later.
Despite the short-lived union, Renner says she has no regrets.
“I followed my heart. That’s more than most people can say,” she shared.
Islam’s 90-Day Waiting Period
Renner, who recently converted to Islam, explained the spiritual and practical significance behind the 90-day waiting period in the faith.
“There is a 90-day waiting period in Islam… It’s to see if you’re pregnant, and for reconciliation. Allah wants you to stay married,” she explained.
“During those 90 days, you’re not supposed to entertain anyone romantically.”
This spiritual guidance helped her stay grounded during the transition.
“It Was a Reset, Not a Regret”
Though the relationship ended quickly, Renner described it as a necessary chapter of growth.
“I don’t think anybody gets married to get divorced,” she said.
“For me, it’s just a nice 90-day reset—focusing on myself and pouring into myself.”
She added:
“I don’t feel like it’s a sucky situation… What is meant to be is always gonna be.”
Rumors, Rings, and Reality TV
Fans first caught wind of a possible engagement back in May, when Renner appeared on the Basketball Wives Season 11 premiere sporting a large diamond ring. The couple had just gone Instagram official the month prior, and Renner added fuel to the fire by calling Kevin her “huzband” in a now-deleted post during the Basketball Wives Season 12 premiere.
The short marriage marks another high-profile chapter in Renner’s personal life. She shares a 4-year-old son, P.J. Washington III, with NBA player P.J. Washington, and has been vocal about co-parenting and self-love.
Kevin Gates Praised as “Most Beautiful Person”
Before the split, Renner was all praise for Gates. In a People interview published May 5th, she described him as her dream partner:
“All I can say is, I’m with the person I quite literally dreamed of. He’s the most beautiful person inside and out that I’ve ever met.”
Despite the breakup, it’s clear that both found value in their time together—even if it was brief.
