Disturbing new details have surfaced in the University of Idaho murder case — and they paint an even more terrifying picture of the brutal 2022 killings.
Newly unsealed police reports confirm that Kaylee Goncalves was “brutally disfigured” in the attack, while her roommate Xana Kernodle fought for her life during a violent confrontation with Bryan Kohberger, who has since been sentenced to life in prison.
???? Goncalves’ Face Was Left Unrecognizable
Police described the crime scene as a “bloodbath”, but what first responders found in Kaylee Goncalves’ room was beyond horrific.
According to a Moscow Police officer’s account, Goncalves’ face had been so savagely wounded that she was “unrecognizable”. The injuries were so extreme, investigators say, it’s believed she may have been the initial target.
Her father, Steve Goncalves, previously hinted that Kaylee had “significantly more brutal injuries” than her best friend Madison Mogen, who was in the same bed.
???? Kernodle Fought to the End
On the floor below, Xana Kernodle appeared to have heard or seen Kohberger upstairs before confronting him in what the reports call an “intense struggle.” Police found deep defensive wounds between Xana’s fingers — a chilling sign that she fought with everything she had before being fatally stabbed.
She had ordered fast food just before the attack. One theory is that Kohberger grabbed the delivery on his way out, based on witness accounts.
???? Masked Intruder Seen by Surviving Roommate
Surviving roommate Dylan Mortensen reported hearing horrifying noises during the attack, including screams, footsteps, and a chilling male voice saying:
“You’re gonna be fine. I’m gonna help you.”
Moments later, she saw a masked man, believed to be Kohberger, walking past her room and exiting through the sliding glass door, carrying what looked like a package.
????️ Ethan Chapin Likely Killed in His Sleep
Ethan Chapin, Kernodle’s boyfriend, was also killed that night. Police believe he was murdered in his sleep, with his body found partially covered by a blanket in his bed.
⚖️ Kohberger Sentenced to Life in Prison
On Wednesday, Bryan Kohberger was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the gruesome slayings of Goncalves, Kernodle, Mogen, and Chapin.
During the sentencing, Kaylee’s father Steve Goncalves delivered a scathing message:
“You are a complete joke… From this day forward, the world will forget you.”
Prosecutors now believe Xana may not have been an intended victim — but instead walked into the horror after the upstairs murders had already begun.
????️ Remembering the Victims
This latest revelation reopens emotional wounds for families still mourning the loss of four young lives — each taken far too soon.
As the public grapples with the haunting details, one thing remains clear: the strength, courage, and resilience of the victims — especially Xana Kernodle — will never be forgotten.
