Chance the Rapper is stepping into a new chapter of life — and music. The Grammy-winning artist is gearing up to drop his highly anticipated sophomore album, Star Line, on August 15, marking his first major project since finalizing his divorce from longtime partner Kirsten Corley. The release will also kick off an accompanying tour, giving fans a chance to hear his most personal work to date performed live.
In an emotional sit-down with CBS Mornings, Chance reflected on navigating co-parenting while adjusting to life post-divorce.
“She’s good. Hey Kirsten! And hey, Kensli and Marli,” Chance said, shouting out his ex-wife and their two daughters. “Family is one of the biggest things for me, for her, for my kids, for my mom and dad. The most important thing for anybody navigating this is to make sure the kids know they’re the priority.”
The Chicago rapper revealed that one track in particular — “Space and Time” — stands out as one of the most “well-written” songs of his career. Written after his split from Corley, the song serves as a deeply personal reflection on love, loss, and growth.
“I think it’s a very personal song about navigating that relationship with the mother of my children,” Chance explained. “I love to build a larger story, so it reads like an epic — like The Odyssey. It’s about going out in search of something you think you need, only to realize the most valuable thing might have been at home all along.”
He added, “Sometimes, if you love somebody the most, you let them go and let them grow.”
Chance and Corley announced their separation in April 2024, releasing a joint statement on Instagram that emphasized respect and gratitude for their time together.
“After a period of separation, we decided to part ways amicably. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together,” the statement read. “We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate this transition.”
With Star Line, Chance isn’t just releasing music — he’s telling the story of his life in real time. Fans can expect themes of love, fatherhood, and self-discovery woven through the album’s lyrics, promising an intimate look into one of hip-hop’s most celebrated independent artists as he charts a new course.
