Owen Hayes, the college baseball player accused of brutally attacking an 84-year-old man at a California bar, is no longer a student at The Master’s University (TMU). The university confirmed this week that Hayes, who had been playing for the school’s baseball team, is no longer enrolled after turning himself in to authorities.
Hayes, who was playing baseball at TMU in Santa Clarita, CA, was booked on a felony assault charge after the incident. According to police, Hayes allegedly assaulted an elderly man at Doc’s Inn, a local dive bar. Video footage from the bar shows a man, identified by authorities as Hayes, rushing behind the elderly victim and knocking him to the floor with a sucker punch. The victim, a regular at the bar, was knocked unconscious and required hospitalization.
In response to the incident, The Master’s University released a statement to TMZ, saying, “The individual in question no longer attends The Master’s University. The University takes all violations of its standards and biblical convictions seriously.” The statement further emphasized the school’s commitment to its core values, stating, “When violations occur, we follow established procedures to ensure appropriate action is decisively taken. We are thankful that such behavior is exceedingly rare among our students, who come to TMU because they desire to honor the Lord.”
Hayes’ name has since been removed from the school’s baseball roster, and he will no longer play for TMU. The incident, which has shocked the community, has raised serious concerns about his behavior, leading to his expulsion from the university.
