The legendary hip-hop mogul Dame Dash is setting the record straight on a story that’s circulated for years: the claim that he once tried to pursue Beyoncé. In a candid interview with The Art of Dialogue, Dash insisted the rumors were completely false.
“Nah. I would never try to talk to another man’s wife,” Dash stated firmly.
He recalled briefly meeting Beyoncé during a Victoria’s Secret show, admitting he may have gotten her number, but clarified that nothing ever came of it. At the time, Beyoncé was just beginning her career and far from the global superstar she is today.
“To me she was like a little girl,” Dash said. “I don’t want to say this because it’ll trigger too much. But I never tried to talk to her after that.”
Avoiding Temptation: Dash on Beyoncé’s Music
Dash also revealed how seriously he took respecting Jay-Z. He admitted he avoids listening to Beyoncé’s music entirely to prevent temptation.
“I don’t even listen to Beyoncé records because I don’t want to want to f*ck her,” he said. “I don’t want to see her shake her body. Even though Jay, I still consider him my brother… I don’t even really know what she looks like.”
This level of self-discipline reflects Dash’s personal code when it comes to women who have been with Jay-Z.
“I never looked at one of his girls and said, ‘I’mma smash her.’ That never happened. Once he would hit the chick, then I’m not f*cking with her,” he explained.
On Women, Respect, and Aaliyah
Dash also touched on the topic of Aaliyah, a singer both he and Jay-Z admired.
“We were both going at her, but she chose me,” he revealed. “That’s all. But it wasn’t like I was trying to take his girl. I mean, he might have had PTSD because of that… You know, I can’t help how a girl feels.”
His remarks emphasize that respect and boundaries have long been central to his relationships in the music industry, even when rivalry or desire was involved.

Why This Matters in Hip-Hop Culture
Hip-hop has always been full of rivalries, drama, and headline-grabbing rumors. Dash’s candid reflections provide a rare glimpse into the personal rules and respect codes that some of the genre’s pioneers follow behind the scenes.
By speaking openly about Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and even Aaliyah, Dash reminds fans that not everything in hip-hop is fueled by drama—sometimes it’s about loyalty, respect, and self-discipline.
