Memphis Bleek

Dame Dash has reignited a decades-old conversation surrounding Memphis Bleek, offering blunt—and contentious—insights into their time at Roc-A-Fella Records. During a recent interview, Dash questioned Bleek’s ambition and capabilities, sparking a wave of reactions across the hip-hop community.

Dash Critiques Bleek’s Drive and Leadership

Dash suggested that Memphis Bleek was not prepared to lead Roc-A-Fella Records in the event of JAY-Z’s hypothetical retirement.

“I don’t think Bleek wanted to take over Roc-A-Fella,” Dash remarked. “I don’t think he had the ability. Jay was writing a lot of his rhymes, so if Jay retired, that meant Bleek’s business would’ve ended too.”

While admitting his comments might be controversial, Dash claimed his remarks weren’t a revelation:

“I probably shouldn’t have said that. But he’s been talking about me lately. I didn’t think it was a secret—I thought everybody knew.”

Dash also critiqued Bleek’s work ethic, claiming he had to push the rapper to release music and take ownership of his career.

“I personally wanted more for him than he wanted for himself. I’d argue, ‘Do your own shows. Stop relying on JAY-Z for everything. You have to build your own path.’”

Memphis Bleek Responds with Humor and Defiance

Memphis Bleek responded to Dash’s comments on X (formerly Twitter), dismissing the accusations with humor:

“He wilding right now, bro,” Bleek wrote, adding crying-laughing emojis.

Regarding the ghostwriting allegations, Bleek quipped:

“I wish—maybe I’d still be lit. And people said I was whack, so if Jay wrote for me, he whack too.”

Bleek also teased his upcoming podcast, Roc Solid Pod, set to debut in 2025, as a platform to address such claims:

“These types of conversations Dame is sparking are the reason the podcast gotta drop. We’re talking about all this.”

Dame Dash’s Allegations of Exploitation

Beyond the recent comments, Dash recounted his past efforts to protect Bleek from exploitative industry practices. He claimed to have helped the rapper escape a predatory production deal that siphoned off his publishing and royalties.

“When he signed his record deal, someone already had him in a bad production contract. I’m not naming names—it’s his story to tell. But all his publishing was getting taken.”

Dash said he intervened by securing legal and financial support for Bleek, though the move caused tension:

“He was from Brooklyn, and Brooklyn cats were robbing him. I saved him from that, and he acknowledges it.”

The Complex Legacy of Roc-A-Fella Records

The ongoing back-and-forth between Dame Dash and Memphis Bleek highlights the layered and often polarizing dynamics among Roc-A-Fella’s founding members. While JAY-Z has remained silent on the controversy, the legacy of the label continues to provoke conversations about ambition, loyalty, and the cost of success in the music industry.

As Memphis Bleek prepares to launch his podcast, fans can expect even more revelations from this storied chapter of hip-hop history.
