Damon Dash is under mounting legal pressure as a Manhattan federal court moves closer to issuing a warrant for his arrest over his failure to comply with a $4 million default judgment.
Court documents filed on Sunday (July 14) reveal that the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder has yet to provide critical ownership documents needed to initiate the sale of his assets through a public auction. Without these filings, the U.S. Marshal’s Office says it cannot proceed with liquidating Dash’s business holdings.
Judge Slams Dame Dash for “Pattern of Non-Compliance”
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Lehrburger didn’t hold back in his criticism of Dash’s actions—or lack thereof.
“This is part of a clear pattern of non-compliance and delay,” Lehrburger wrote.
The judge has ordered Dash to appear in court on July 31 at 10 a.m. to explain why he hasn’t submitted the required paperwork. If he doesn’t show, Lehrburger warned, the court may issue an arrest warrant and impose additional financial penalties. Dash has until July 30 to avoid those consequences by filing the missing documents.
The “Dear Frank” Lawsuit Explained
The legal fight stems from the 2019 film Dear Frank. Dash was removed from the project but later claimed ownership, prompting filmmaker Josh Webber and Muddy Water Pictures to sue him for copyright infringement and defamation.
In 2022, a judge ordered Dash to pay $805,000 after he repeatedly missed court deadlines and refused mediation. The situation escalated in 2025 when Dash made defamatory remarks about Webber during an interview on the Earn Your Leisure podcast. That led to a $4 million default judgment against him.
Dame Dash’s Assets on the Line
To recover damages, the court approved the sale of Dash’s stakes in several companies, including:
- Dash Films Inc.
- Bluroc LLC
- Blakroc LLC
- Lebanon Improvements LLC
- Ocean East Improvements LLC
- 1996 Songs LLC
Poppington LLC was also ordered to hand over copyright certificates tied to multiple film projects, but Webber’s attorneys claim those documents are still missing.
Webber’s legal team recently requested that the court issue an arrest warrant for Dash and transfer control of his disputed assets to the U.S. Marshal.
Financial Woes Mount for Dash
Dash previously sold his one-third interest in Roc-A-Fella Records in December 2024 for just over $1 million, but the funds were reportedly absorbed by outstanding debts to New York State. The sale did little to offset the larger judgment.
If Dash fails to comply again, the court is prepared to liquidate his remaining assets. The U.S. Marshal will oversee the auction, and any leftover proceeds will be returned to Dash once the judgment is settled in full.
What’s Next for Dame Dash?
As the July 31 deadline approaches, Dash faces serious consequences if he doesn’t act. With his Roc-A-Fella stake gone and creditors circling, the once-celebrated hip-hop mogul is running out of moves.
Fans and industry insiders are now watching closely to see whether Dash will appear in court—or if this legal battle marks another chapter in his long and turbulent financial saga.
???? Do you think Dame Dash can bounce back from this? Or is this the final straw for the Roc-A-Fella co-founder?
