Sean “Diddy” Combs is once again under legal scrutiny as former Bad Boy Records artist Sara Rivers has filed a staggering $60 million lawsuit against the music mogul, alleging sexual harassment, assault, and workplace mistreatment. The lawsuit, filed on February 28, is tied to New York City’s Gender-Motivated Violence Act, which was nearing its deadline for claims.
Serious Allegations Against Diddy
Rivers, a former member of Da Band, has accused Diddy of subjecting her to inappropriate behavior, including groping her, making unwanted advances, and forcing her to work under deplorable conditions. The lawsuit also names Universal Music, MTV, multiple Bad Boy employees, Diddy’s mother, Janice Combs, and more than two dozen other individuals as defendants.
According to the suit, Rivers claims that Diddy backed her against a corner while she was walking down a hallway, touching her inappropriately and speaking to her in a “low, sensual voice.” The filing states that he allegedly adjusted her jacket collar and then ran his hand across her breasts while repeatedly offering to provide assistance.
Behind-the-Scenes Abuse on Making the Band
Rivers also detailed incidents from her time on Making the Band, the early 2000s reality show that documented the rise of Da Band. She described the now-infamous “cheesecake episode”—where Diddy forced contestants to walk miles to retrieve a cheesecake—as “uncompensated manual labor” and claimed she was the only individual singled out for sexual scrutiny and humiliation.
Additionally, Rivers accused Diddy of making disturbing threats towards her and her fellow bandmates, stating that he once told a member, “You make me so mad I want to eat your flesh.” Another time, he allegedly threatened to pay a crack addict $20 to assault one of them.
Career Blackballing and Unfair Contracts
Beyond the alleged harassment, Rivers claims that Diddy pressured her into signing a $25,000 publishing contract under questionable circumstances. When she later attempted to address grievances or seek help, she alleges that Diddy ridiculed and belittled her.
After the dissolution of Da Band in 2004, Rivers contends that Diddy effectively blackballed her from the music industry, preventing her from securing new opportunities.
Diddy’s Defense: ‘Meritless and Opportunistic’
Diddy’s representatives have categorically denied all allegations, calling them baseless and opportunistic.
“This is yet another example of false claims being filed against Mr. Combs. No matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won’t change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
The statement further suggested that the lawsuit is a last-minute attempt to take advantage of New York’s expiring Gender-Motivated Violence Act. “We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. With the deadline for New York’s Gender-Motivated Violence Act expiring tomorrow, it’s clear that opportunists are rushing to file last-minute, meritless claims. Mr. Combs remains confident he will prevail in court.”
The Larger Picture: A Pattern of Legal Challenges
This lawsuit is just the latest in a string of legal troubles for Diddy. Recent allegations and lawsuits against him have included claims of abuse, misconduct, and even involvement in sex trafficking. While he has vehemently denied all allegations, the growing number of accusers has cast a shadow over his long-standing career in the music industry.
In her lawsuit, Rivers has also pointed to previous allegations against Diddy to establish a pattern of behavior. She first aired her grievances publicly in the documentary The Making of a Bad Boy, where she detailed the mistreatment she and her fellow cast members endured between 2002 and 2004.
What’s Next?
With legal proceedings now underway, all eyes will be on the court’s handling of Rivers’ claims. If the case proceeds, it could open the door for further scrutiny into Diddy’s past and present conduct in the entertainment industry.
As more voices come forward, the battle between Diddy and his accusers continues to unfold, raising questions about power, influence, and accountability in the music industry.
