Former President Donald Trump has offered heartfelt condolences following the death of Pope Francis, calling him a man who “loved the world” and “worked hard for peace.”
Speaking during the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday morning, Trump opened his remarks by acknowledging the Pope’s passing, which occurred earlier that day.
A Presidential Tribute
Trump honored Pope Francis by signing an executive order mandating all federal and state flags across the United States be flown at half-staff, a traditional gesture of national mourning.
“He was a good man who loved the world,” Trump said during his speech. “May God bless him and all who loved him.”
Trump’s History with Pope Francis
Although Trump and Pope Francis last met in person back in 2017, the former president expressed deep respect for the pontiff. On Truth Social, Trump posted a short message: “May God bless him and all who loved him!”
The tribute comes shortly after Vice President JD Vance met briefly with the Pope during an Easter visit to the Vatican—just hours before the Pope’s death.
