Phil Robertson, ‘Duck Dynasty’ Star and Duck Commander Founder, Dies at 79
Phil Robertson, the beloved patriarch of the Duck Dynasty family and founder of the Duck Commander empire, has passed away at age 79. The somber news was confirmed by his daughter-in-law Korie Robertson, who shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook over the weekend.
“Phil was a man of unwavering faith,” Korie wrote. “He always reminded us that death is not the end — it’s a return to God’s kingdom. We are grateful for the love and prayers from so many and promise to carry on his legacy.”
A Battle with Health Complications
Phil’s family had previously opened up about his declining health in a December 2024 episode of their Unashamed with The Robertson Family podcast. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and according to his son Jase Robertson, Phil was also suffering from a debilitating blood disease that had progressively worsened.
“He was in constant pain and barely able to walk without crying out,” Jase shared during the emotional podcast episode.
Reality TV Icon and Controversial Figure
Phil rose to national fame as the head of the Robertson clan on A&E’s wildly popular reality series Duck Dynasty, which aired from 2012 to 2017. The show followed the lives of the Louisiana-based family behind Duck Commander, Phil’s duck call business turned multi-million-dollar brand.
Though beloved by many for his faith-driven lifestyle and straightforward demeanor, Phil wasn’t without controversy. In 2014, he was briefly suspended from Duck Dynasty following a highly criticized interview with GQ Magazine, where he made homophobic and racist remarks.
Despite the backlash, his fanbase remained strong, and Phil continued to speak openly about his faith and conservative beliefs.
Legacy and ‘Duck Dynasty’ Reboot
As news of Phil’s death spread, fans took to social media to honor the man they came to know on screen. While A&E is reportedly rebooting ‘Duck Dynasty’, the network notably did not include Phil in its recent announcements — likely due to both his health struggles and previous controversies.
Still, Phil’s impact on pop culture and Christian audiences across America is undeniable.
“Phil was the cornerstone of our family and our brand,” Korie wrote. “We’ll miss him dearly but know he’s finally at peace.”
Rest in Peace, Phil Robertson
A devoted husband, father, businessman, and outspoken man of faith — Phil leaves behind a complex legacy that touched millions. He is survived by his wife Kay Robertson, their children, and grandchildren.
