Lakers fans hoping for a Dwight Howard comeback can put those dreams to rest—the former NBA star has confirmed there’s zero chance of re-signing with Los Angeles.
Despite speculation following the Anthony Davis-for-Luka Doncic trade, Howard told TMZ Sports at LAX this week that he’s content focusing on his personal life and not looking to make an NBA return.
“Lakers Not Calling Me”
Though he initially sparked curiosity with a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter) after the blockbuster trade, Howard made it clear:
“I’m always ready, but there’s more to life than basketball.”
The 38-year-old veteran, who last played professionally with the Taoyuan Taiwan Beer Leopards in 2022-23, also said that he hasn’t been contacted by the Lakers:
“Lakers not calling me, brother.”
Howard’s Legacy in LA
Howard had three stints with the Lakers (2012, 2019, 2021) and played a key role in their 2020 championship run alongside LeBron James during the NBA’s COVID-shortened season.
Although he won’t be suiting up in purple and gold this year, Howard still believes L.A. has a real shot at another championship.
For now, the eight-time All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year remains focused on spending time with his family while watching the NBA from the sidelines.
