The highly anticipated documentary series A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read has captivated audiences, providing a behind-the-scenes look at her first trial and preparation for the retrial in the controversial death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe. Since its release on March 17, the five-part docuseries has pulled in an impressive 6.3 million viewers, but TMZ has learned that there are no plans to film her upcoming retrial.

No Cameras for the Retrial

Terry Dunn-Meurer, the director of the documentary, confirmed to TMZ that while Karen Read’s story is compelling, they will not be filming a second installment covering the retrial. In a statement, Dunn-Meurer explained, “Karen approached us with a compelling desire to share her story, and we believe we captured it thoroughly in A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read. While the second trial will undoubtedly introduce new evidence and fresh faces — including a new prosecutor and three additional defense attorneys — the essence of Karen’s story remains the same. Therefore, we currently have no plans to film another documentary covering the same ground.”

The Investigation Discovery (ID) team wrapped up filming with Karen shortly after her first trial ended last summer. While they conducted follow-up interviews in August, none of them included Karen, marking the end of their coverage on the case.

The Shocking Case That Gripped a Nation

The gripping docuseries provided an unprecedented look into Karen Read’s life as she allowed cameras inside her Mansfield, Massachusetts home, answered tough questions, and firmly maintained her innocence. The case itself has sparked widespread debate, with allegations of both wrongful conviction and police cover-ups.

According to prosecutors, Read allegedly got into a drunken argument with O’Keefe in 2022, then backed up her SUV and struck him, leaving him to die in a friend’s snow-covered yard. However, Read and her defense team have consistently claimed she was framed, arguing that O’Keefe was actually involved in a violent altercation with fellow police officers that night, and the blame was unjustly placed on her.

The Trial That Ended in a Mistrial

Karen Read’s first trial ended in a mistrial last year after the jury struggled to reach a unanimous verdict. While they were prepared to acquit her on second-degree murder and fleeing the scene, they were deadlocked 9-3 in favor of convicting her on vehicular manslaughter. This outcome set the stage for the upcoming retrial, which is expected to introduce new legal strategies, evidence, and expert testimonies.

Where to Watch A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read

For those eager to dive deeper into the twists and turns of the case, all episodes of A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read are available for streaming on Max and Discovery+.

As the retrial approaches, the public remains divided on Karen Read’s innocence, making this one of the most talked-about true crime cases in recent years. Will the second trial finally bring closure, or will the controversy continue to fuel debates? Only time will tell.
