Evening news took an unintentional X-rated turn this week in Savannah, Georgia — and it’s all thanks to one very unfortunate typo involving Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
During WTOC 11’s Wednesday night broadcast, the station rolled footage from Penix Jr.’s press conference… but the lower third identifying him didn’t exactly stick to the playbook. Instead of “Penix,” the on-screen text boldly read Michael Penis Jr.
Yes, you read that right.
How Did That Even Happen?
In the station’s defense, the “X” and “S” keys are neighbors on a keyboard — but this slip-up still had grown adults across social media laughing like middle schoolers in the back of class.
Sports blog Awful Announcing even got in on the fun, dubbing it “a bit of an oopsie” in a re-share that quickly went viral.
Social Media Reaction:
Fans couldn’t resist cracking jokes, with many pointing out this probably isn’t the first time local reporters have tripped over the quarterback’s surname since he joined the team in 2024.
One user joked:
“Falcons PR department about to have a very awkward meeting tomorrow.”
Another simply posted:
“Flag on the play.” 🚩

WTOC hasn’t issued a statement or apology for the graphic gaffe — but we can only imagine the mortified staffer is having one limp week at work.
As for Penix Jr., he’s likely heard every variation of this name mishap before… but seeing it splashed across a live TV newscast? That’s next-level.
