Celebrated Ugandan rapper Gravity Omutujju has expressed his disappointment over restrictions placed on some of his songs by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). Speaking during an interview with Sanyuka TV, the rapper shared how prohibiting his music from being performed or promoted has impacted him both personally and professionally.

“It’s not a good feeling because I want to be able to perform my music anywhere. When my music is prohibited, it affects me,” Gravity explained.

The restrictions are part of UCC’s broader effort to regulate vulgar music content in the country, a move that has sparked debate among Ugandans.

Defending His Craft

Gravity Omutujju, alongside other artists such as Lil Pazo, has faced heavy criticism in recent weeks for producing songs that some deem vulgar. However, the rapper stands by his artistry and insists that he has made significant positive contributions to the Ugandan music scene since his breakthrough.

“I have inspired so many young people to do music. I am a very calm person by the way, and I do take advice when necessary,” Gravity noted.

He also highlighted his versatility, pointing out that his discography includes songs that inspire as well as songs created purely for entertainment.

“People need to understand that we do not do music for everyone. What you may like, someone else might not like, and that should be okay. I have also done music that has inspired the masses and recorded music for the other crowd that just wants to have a good time, and I won’t stop,” the rapper added.

Impact and Commitment

Gravity Omutujju emphasized that music is a form of art and expression, and he remains committed to creating tracks that resonate with his fans. His ability to tackle diverse topics while appealing to various audiences has made him a cornerstone of Uganda’s entertainment industry.

Despite the challenges posed by restrictions, the rapper vows to continue delivering the music his fans love while striving to balance creativity with compliance.

Fan Reactions

Fans have rallied behind Gravity, praising him for his candidness and resilience. On social media, discussions continue to emerge over the balance between creative freedom and cultural regulation.
