Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is on the brink of securing a record-breaking contract, with franchise legend Chad Johnson predicting a deal worth “north of” $40 million per year—making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.
“Yesterday’s Price Is Not Today’s Price”
Johnson, speaking to TMZ Sports, believes the Bengals could have locked in Chase last year for around $30-35 million per season. But after an incredible season leading the NFL in yards, receptions, and touchdowns, his value has skyrocketed.
“They decide to wait, he wins a goddamn triple crown, and now you’ve got to pay double,” Johnson said.
Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin already hinted that Chase would become the top-paid non-QB this year, reinforcing the idea that a massive deal is imminent.
What About Tee Higgins?
Johnson also weighed in on Tee Higgins, Chase’s teammate and fellow standout receiver, insisting Higgins should get every dollar he deserves with no hometown discount on his first major contract.
“You don’t take hometown discounts on first contracts,” Johnson emphasized.
