Newly obtained video from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shows Marselles Brown, father of NBA star Jaylen Brown, instructing someone to contact his son just after being taken into custody for a violent incident in Nevada last month.
The footage, obtained by TMZ Sports, captures Marselles shortly after police say he allegedly stabbed a man during a parking lot dispute.
“Tell [inaudible] to call Jaylen,” Marselles can be heard saying in the video. “Call Jaylen.”
It remains unclear whether he was trying to reach the Boston Celtics forward or another person with the same name. Representatives for Jaylen Brown did not comment when reached Thursday.

Incident Details and Arrest
Marselles is currently facing multiple felony charges, including:
- Attempted murder with a deadly weapon
- Other charges related to the alleged altercation
The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a door ding involving a youth football coach. Marselles’ attorney, Arnold Weinstock, claims his client acted in self-defense.
At the scene, Marselles’ wife told police that the alleged victim attacked first, supporting the self-defense claim.
Family Tensions Highlighted
Sources close to Jaylen Brown have said the former NBA Finals MVP and his father have not been close. Jaylen himself recently avoided questions about Marselles while at LAX, suggesting a strained relationship.
Despite the apparent request to contact his son, the footage underscores a complicated family dynamic amid serious legal trouble.
Court Dates and Ongoing Investigation
Marselles is due in court next month for another hearing as the case continues to unfold. Authorities are investigating the full circumstances surrounding the alleged stabbing, and updates are expected as the trial progresses.
The Boston Celtics forward, meanwhile, continues his career away from the public scrutiny surrounding his father’s legal issues.
