R&B powerhouse Jazmine Sullivan marked her 38th birthday with a heartbreaking revelation: she suffered a miscarriage and is grieving the loss of her unborn child.
Taking to her Instagram Stories on Thursday, April 10, Sullivan shared an emotional message with fans, opening up about the grief that’s weighed heavily on her heart in recent weeks.
“Whew.. thank y’all for ur birthday wishes,” she wrote. “Leading up to my birthday has been incredibly hard as I’ve been thinking about my mother and missing her more than words can say.”
Grieving the Loss of Her Mother
Sullivan has been candid about her pain following the death of her beloved mother, Pamela Sullivan, who passed away from breast cancer on July 22, 2023, at age 64.
This year, that grief was compounded by another devastating loss.
“I Woulda Been Holding My 2-Month-Old Son”
In the same post, Sullivan revealed that she had recently experienced a miscarriage, mourning the child she never got the chance to meet.
“I woulda been holding my 2-month-old son that I never got to meet,” she shared. “So needless to say, I’ve been down bad.”
Despite the emotional weight, she expressed gratitude for a healing massage that helped her release some of the “deep pain” she had been carrying for a while.
Jazmine Asks for Prayers as She Heals
Sullivan thanked her supporters for their kind messages and reflected on the love she’s felt from her fanbase.
“I’m also grateful that so many of you think of me and take the time to write! It’s all so beautiful!! Please continue to pray for me as I heal from life’s ass whooping.”
This isn’t the first time Sullivan has shared her struggles during her birthday month. In 2024, she revealed that turning 37 while grieving her mother was incredibly difficult.
“I tried so hard to keep busy for my birthday to distract myself, but I don’t think it works like that,” she said. “I cried all month. I’ll cry for the rest of my life. But I’ll also smile, laugh, and dance in between the tears! So thank God for that!”
