Jeremy Renner may play a tough guy on screen, but according to his Mayor of Kingstown co-star D Smoke, his real-life determination is even more impressive.
TMZ caught up with the Inglewood rapper—known for winning Netflix’s Rhythm & Flow—during a boxing session with none other than Manny Pacquiao, where he opened up about Renner’s incredible comeback following his near-fatal snowplow accident in early 2023.
“The man is an inspiration,” D Smoke said. “To see what he powered through… lifting weights on set, staying focused, still knocking out scenes like nothing happened—it’s wild.”
Renner Worked Through Rehab While Filming
Filming for Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 didn’t pause to accommodate Renner’s injuries—but production made key adjustments to ensure he could work safely while healing.
“They gave him some chairs and modified a few action scenes,” D Smoke revealed. “But honestly? Renner showed up ready. Hawkeye vibes for real.”
Renner’s rehab regimen reportedly included strength training during shooting days, all while embodying his gritty character on the Paramount+ thriller.
A Rap Star on the Rise in Hollywood
D Smoke, who plays Raphael Johnson in the series, is already an award-winning hip-hop artist, and he’s now carving out his place on screen. But even as he trains with boxing royalty like Pacquiao and preps for more roles, he says seeing Renner’s drive firsthand was next-level.
“That’s big bro. Watching him grind like that just fires everybody else up,” he said.
Renner’s Comeback Continues
Renner has slowly returned to the spotlight after his horrific snowplow accident that left him with over 30 broken bones. From walking red carpets to working on major productions again, his recovery is being hailed as nothing short of heroic.
With Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 on the horizon and costars singing his praises, it’s clear: Jeremy Renner isn’t just back—he’s better than ever.
