When it comes to fame, fortune, and flashy spending, most 20-year-olds in JuJu Watkins’ shoes (literally) might be tempted to go all out. But the USC basketball superstar is proving she’s in a league of her own — on and off the court.
The Trojans guard, who just locked down a massive contract extension with Nike — reportedly the biggest women’s footwear deal since Zion Williamson’s — says she hasn’t made a single frivolous purchase despite the life-changing payday.
“I Try to Be Very Smart”
Caught by TMZ Sports while walking through LAX, JuJu kept things humble.
“I try to be very smart,” Watkins said when asked how she’s handling her new money moves.
That means no flashy cars, no private jets, and no blinged-out toys — just focus, discipline, and recovery.
The Nike Empire
JuJu first signed with Nike back in high school, becoming one of the company’s rising faces before she ever dribbled a college ball. Fast-forward to late 2024, and she’s inked an extension that powerhouse agent Rich Paul called “the largest footwear deal since Zion Williamson.”
The magnitude of that comparison can’t be overstated — Zion’s deal was a reported $75 million. While JuJu’s exact numbers haven’t been disclosed, the message is clear: Nike is betting big on her.

Eyes on the Court, Not the Closet
Despite the financial windfall, Watkins hasn’t gone full celebrity-spender. When asked directly if she’s treated herself to anything shiny or extravagant? She gave a flat “no.”
Instead, her focus is on getting healthy. The 20-year-old phenom is currently rehabbing a knee injury that’s put her on pause for the start of USC’s season. Still, she radiated optimism, smiling and staying upbeat while chatting with reporters.
The Bigger Picture
Watkins is more than just a baller with a contract — she’s shaping up to be the blueprint for Gen Z athletes: smart with money, savvy with branding, and fully aware that her future is bigger than basketball.
If her Nike deal is any indication, JuJu is set to become one of the most recognizable names in women’s sports — and she’s doing it without the reckless spending that often derails young stars.
