Hollywood is mourning the loss of Australian actor Julian McMahon, best known for his roles in Charmed, Nip/Tuck, and the Fantastic Four films. He passed away on Wednesday at the age of 56 following a battle with cancer, his wife Kelly Paniagua confirmed to Deadline.
“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible,” Kelly shared in a heartfelt statement.
The grieving widow also asked for privacy during this difficult time as family and friends process their devastating loss.
A Career Full of Iconic Roles
Julian McMahon made his mark in Hollywood over three decades, transitioning from TV heartthrob to big-screen villain with ease.
He first gained international attention in the late ‘90s with small parts in Will & Grace and the Australian drama G.P., but it was his role as the smoldering Cole Turner in Charmed (1998–2006) that solidified him as a fan favorite. Across 47 episodes, McMahon brought a blend of danger and charm to the warlock-turned-lover of Alyssa Milano’s character, Phoebe Halliwell.
In the mid-2000s, McMahon transformed his image once again, starring as the calculating plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Troy in Ryan Murphy’s Nip/Tuck. The edgy medical drama earned him a Golden Globe nomination and showcased his ability to take on complex, often morally ambiguous characters.
From Supervillain to Real-Life Inspiration
McMahon also left his mark in the superhero genre, portraying the iconic villain Victor von Doom in Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007).
His later credits included roles in hit shows like FBI, Runaways, Hunters, and The Residence. Fittingly, in his last on-screen appearance, he portrayed the Australian Prime Minister—a role deeply personal for Julian, whose father Sir William McMahon served as Australia’s PM from 1971 to 1972.

Twitter is flooded with hashtags like #RIPJulianMcMahon and #CharmedForever, as fans revisit his most iconic moments.
