In a jaw-dropping confession, Ye (formerly Kanye West) has slammed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, calling it a product of fear and validation, and stating bluntly:
“I haaaaaaate that album.”
The comment, shared over the weekend on social platform X (formerly Twitter), has left fans stunned, considering the 2010 album is widely considered Ye’s magnum opus — even ranking #17 on Rolling Stone’s list of the greatest albums of all time.
“It Was Me Trying to Prove Myself” — Ye Reflects on the Taylor Swift Fallout
Ye explained that the album was heavily influenced by his fallout after the infamous 2009 MTV VMAs incident with Taylor Swift.
“It was like ‘coming back from the Taylor Swift moment.’ I should have leaned in more,” he said, suggesting he compromised artistically in an effort to be accepted again.
Ye: “The Life of Pablo Is Waaay Better”
Ye didn’t stop there. He claimed 2016’s The Life of Pablo far surpasses MBDTF in creativity and quality:
“The Life of Pablo is waaaay better than My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Go song for song.”
This statement reignited debates online, with fans comparing both albums track-by-track — and most siding with Dark Fantasy as the superior project.
Ye Still Shows Love to a Few Tracks
Despite his scathing critique, Ye gave credit to standout tracks like:
- “Devil in a New Dress”
- “Blame Game”
He also reflected on his 2013 album Yeezus, praising songs like:
- “On Sight”
- “Hold My Liquor”
- “Blood on the Leaves”
In a wild moment, Ye revealed the album was originally titled “N****r Cock” before his close friend Don C convinced him to change it to Yeezus.
Fans Fire Back: “MBDTF Still Reigns Supreme”
Although Ye continues to downplay the project — having previously said even Ye (2018) was “waaay better” — fans aren’t buying it. A recent poll showed 78% of fans still consider MBDTF his best work, with one user writing:
“Bro is trying to rewrite history. Dark Fantasy changed the game.”
Why It Matters
Ye’s comments add a deeper layer to the ongoing conversation about art vs. intention, and how an artist’s emotional state can shape — and later reshape — their view of their work. Whether he truly hates the album or is trying to spark dialogue, one thing’s clear: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy remains a cultural juggernaut — even if its creator can’t stand it.
Do you agree with Ye? Is Pablo really better than Dark Fantasy?
