Katt Williams is making major moves in the entertainment industry, aiming to leave a lasting legacy beyond stand-up comedy. The legendary comedian has revealed his ambitious plans to transform a vacant military base in Alabama into a state-of-the-art film studio.
Inspired by Tyler Perry’s Success
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Williams shared that his inspiration came from Tyler Perry, who turned a military base in Atlanta into a world-class film production hub—Tyler Perry Studios.
“The reason why my life works in golf and off the golf course is because I follow instructions well,” Williams explained. “So if I see somebody do a good job, I just want to do a good job. I’m going to follow the example. So Tyler Perry got a military base, made it into a movie studio, and started making movies.”
However, Williams was quick to clarify that, unlike Perry, he won’t be taking on a cross-dressing comedic persona like Madea.
“I’m Not Wearing Dresses” – Katt Williams Jokes About His Movie Plans
Jimmy Fallon pressed further, asking Williams directly: “Are you making movies?”
In response, Williams humorously assured fans that his creative direction would be different from Perry’s.
“I’m not wearing dresses,” he said confidently, causing the audience to erupt in laughter.
Katt Williams’ Business Vision: Expanding His Empire
Williams has previously spoken about his desire to expand beyond stand-up comedy, exploring new avenues in television and film. In a 2023 interview with GQ, he revealed that he was motivated by other successful entertainment moguls like Tyler Perry, 50 Cent, and Donald Glover to invest in creating his own production empire.
“It’s just not fair to put all that pressure on Tyler Perry,” Williams said. “He can only do so much.”
His decision to build a film studio in Alabama is a strategic move that aligns with Hollywood’s growing interest in expanding film production into southern states beyond Georgia. With his industry expertise and decades-long career, Williams aims to create a platform for independent filmmakers, actors, and content creators.
Katt Williams Was Once Sued by Dr. Seuss?
Elsewhere in the interview, Williams shared a bizarre legal battle from his early days as a comedian. He revealed that he was sued by the estate of Dr. Seuss over the use of his stage name when he was still an up-and-coming comic.
“I had only done Comic View twice, Jimmy, and I get a cease and desist,” he recalled. “I got a cease and desist for my appearances on Comic View, where I made $300 from three seasons. And they sent a cease and desist.”
While it might have seemed like a setback at the time, Williams used the lawsuit as motivation.
“And because I’m a naturally positive person, like to the point where if something negative happens in front of me—I don’t see it. So when they sued me for the name, I was like, ‘Wait a minute, I’m worthless. How the hell did I end up on their radar? I’m gonna make it!’”
Katt Williams’ Influence on the Entertainment Industry
Williams’ ambitious plans show his determination to leave a lasting impact on the entertainment industry beyond just comedy. By launching a film studio on a military base, he follows in the footsteps of trailblazers like Tyler Perry, aiming to create new opportunities for filmmakers, comedians, and actors.
As Hollywood continues to shift towards independent production hubs, Williams’ vision could help turn Alabama into a major destination for film and television production.
